The Type 1 LED signal unit shall replace the
reflector, socket, gasket, and lens assembly of
an incandescent signal section and shall fit the
sections of an incandescent signal face as
specified in Section 86-4.01, "Vehicle Signal
Faces," of the Standard Specifications or may
mount in the medium base lamp socket just as an
incandescent bulb mounts. Traffic products are
available in Type 1 or Type 2 configurations.
Type 1 LED signal module are designed to be
installed in the door frame of a standard
traffic signal housing. The lamp socket,
reflector, reflector holder and lens used with
an incandescent lamp shall not be used in a
signal section in which a Type 1 LED signal
module is installed.
Type 2 LED signal modules shall be designed to
mount in the standard lamp socket normally used
with an incandescent lamp. When a Type 2 LED
signal module is used, a standard traffic signal
lens in the door frame shall be used, at the
option of the Contractor, the standard lens may
be replaced with a translucent red lens to seal
the signal section from weather. The
installation of a Type 2 LED signal module shall
not require any modification to the standard
lamp socket or reflector.
Each Type 1 LED signal unit shall consist of a
convex lens made of red ultraviolet stabilized
hard-coated plastic or glass, LED circuit board
with electronic switching module, and two
conductors as specified in Section 86-4.01 C,
"Electrical Components," of the Standard
Specifications. The chromaticity of the red lens
color shall match the chromaticity of the LEDs.
Electrical connection can be accomplished by
each conductor with spade tongue connector at
the end, of sufficient length to reach a
terminal strip mounted in the blue-green signal
section housing with the red section door open.
The unit shall be sealed with a one-piece
neoprene EPDM (Ethylene, Propylene, Diene
Monomers) gasket, shall be watertight, and shall
be designed to be mounted to the door of the
signal section housing using the same mounting
method as the signal lens.
Electrical circuits shall be designed to limit
the current flowing through each LED to 20
milliamps (ma) maximum at 120 volts AC (VAC).
The failure of any LED shall only result in the
loss of not more than 2 percent of the total
LEDs in the signal unit.
Red LEDs shall be the ultra bright type and
shall be rated for 100,000 hours of continuous
operation at nominal current and at 25°C. The
operating temperature range shall be from -40° C
to 74° C. The LED emission spectrum shall meet
the present ITE chromaticity diagram according
to the 1931 CIE standard. The viewing angle
shall be not less than 30°. Only Red and Yellow
LEDs manufactured with Indium technology will be
used. Blue-green LEDs will utilize Nitrite
technology.

Flange mount units consist of an LED array,
electronics, rear housing and lens. Electrical
connection can be accomplished by each conductor
with spade tongue connector at the end, of
sufficient length to reach a terminal strip
mounted in the blue-green signal section housing
with the red section door open. A black,
polycarbonate rear housing, that has a water
impermeable air vent installed, deters heat
build-up in unit.
Screwbase units will consist of an LED array,
electronics, rear housing and clear dust cover.
An Edison medium screwbase adapter installs
directly into lamp socket base and requires no
modification to the signal housing. Indexed LEDs
utilize, existing glass lens double convex
design characteristics, for enhanced light
throughput. A black, polycarbonate rear housing,
that has a water impermeable air vent installed,
deters heat build-up in unit.
MODEL 1932 12" RED LED BALL FLANGE MOUNT
Each LED utilized in a 12-inch circular red
indication shall be rated at 2Ø 1/2 30º to be
2500 millicandelas (mcd) typical at 20 ma. The
number of LEDs shall be sufficient to meet the
light output specifications as outlined in
Vehicle Traffic Control Signal Heads: a standard
of the ITE. The LEDs shall be wired in a minimum
of 65 parallel strings. The LEDs shall be
arranged uniformly throughout the circle. The
power consumption of the 12 inch red circular
indication shall be 20 watts +/- .5 watts at 120
VAC. Model 1932 has 650 LEDs, and a red
translucent hard-coated lens.

emitting diode (LED) signal unit. The LED signal
unit shall replace the incandescent bulb of a
Type A signal unit as specified in section

further modification of the pedestrian signal
head.
Each LED pedestrian signal shall consist of a
LED matrix circuit board with electronic
switching module, and a black polycarbonate rear
housing, that has a water impermeable air vent
installed, deters heat build-up in unit.
Electrical circuits shall be designed to limit
the current flowing through each LED to 20
milliamps (ma) maximum at 120 Volts AC (VAC).
The failure of any LED in a string shall only
result in the loss of 2% or less of the total
LEDs in the LED pedestrian signal unit.

POLE-MOUNTED IQ SPEED Checker AWARENESS DISPLAY
This solar powered, pole-mounted speed director provides a
quick and clear signal to the driver of his/her current speed. Use in school
zones, neighborhoods, and anywhere where speed limit compliance is vital. Many
configurations are available to fit your needs. Activate through a pager system
(PAS) or manually operate. Extreme speed setting allows the unit to grab the
attention of the driver by use of other visual displays when not showing their
actual speed. This solar powered unit can be moved easily to different
locations.
A IQ speed display board allows everyone to see the radar speeds. Display boards
generate excitement and additional interest for any event or game. The display
boards with seven inch characters are visible about 350 feet away. The boards
with ten inch characters can be viewed more than 600 feet away. That's as long
as two football fields!

activate the generator at the loss of power. According to IQUPS, the
generator assumes the full load in seven seconds. When utility power
is restored, the generator shuts off and signal operation is
automatically returned to the normal power source. "The IQUPS1800
will completely run the intersection stoplights," said general
manager for the DOT. "Other backup systems will put the lights to
flashing red. When the generator kicks in on the IQUPS1800, the
lights will fully function for 25 to 40 hours, depending on the load
at the intersection. When power is restored, the system returns to
utility power and the traffic signals do not need to be reset."

Wireless Crosswalk
Systems OKWC - Advance Crosswalk Flasher This system has a transmitter station located at both ends of
the crosswalk. The transmitter can be configured with a
pedestrian push button or configured to use different types of
sensors such as a OkSmart Walk Microwave Detector. When a
pedestrian is detected at the crosswalk or he presses the
pedestrian push button, a signal is transmitted down the street
to the flasher system. This flasher is often located
approximately 297 feet in advance of the crosswalk.
Advance Crosswalk
Flasher—the OKWC flasher system—contains a radio receiver
and timing logic within its control panel. The radio receives a
signal from the crosswalk and in turn, begins its internal
timer. Each flasher will flash for the predetermined time
programmed into the logic. Typically, a system contains two
transmitter stations, one located on each side of the street and
two flashers upstream from the crosswalk on either side.
OKSP - Solar Pedestrian System
Solar Traffic Controls are installed right at the crosswalk.
This system uses a frequency hopping, spread spectrum radio (FHSS)
to link the units. There are microprocessors in each unit: one
is the master and the other a slave. The pedestrian push button
is on the same pole with the flasher and the solar-power system.
The user approaches and presses the button; the system detects
the contact closure from the button and starts flashing. The
units are constantly "talking" to each other. They have fault
modes so when they stop "talking" to each other, the system goes
into a known-fault condition so the user knows the system needs
service.
The Solar Pedestrian system offers greater flexibility. You can
have up to four flashers in a network. Two can be placed in
advance of the crosswalk and two at the crosswalk.
LED Lighting sources are ideally suited
for applications where lighting requirements are principally dictated
by the need to be seen. (Traffic signals, navigational beacons,
obstruction lighting, signage, runway
lighting, brake lights...)
